In 2018, the Council agreed to develop a new fit for purpose school to replace the old school buildings. The proposed scheme would also free up land to develop much needed new homes on the site.
The Council, Hillbourne School and Poole Housing Partnership (PHP) worked together to develop a sitemaster plan, which would see the new school being rebuilt at the centre of the site whilst the existing schools are still in use. Once constructed, the two areas of land on either side of the new building would then be released for the housing development to commence. (see plan below).
The layout has been designed to embrace the ‘Secured by Design’ development standards, which is a flagship UK police initiative to help ‘design out’ crime using high-quality innovative products and processes. The principles of the scheme have been proven to reduce both the risk and the fear of crime.
Following feedback provided at the public consultation held in September 2019, the plans have been developed. The proposal is for 110 modern, energy efficient homes for local families and older people in need of housing.
