PHP's work to supply residents with free solar electricity has been celebrated during the National Federation of ALMOs (NFA) Awards in Manchester.

The Your Solar Energy project was one of the runners-up in the category of 'Managing Energy Efficiency and Fuel Poverty', sponsored by Utilitia.

PHP featured alongside Homes for Northumberland, Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing and South Tyneside Homes in the awards, which recognise and celebrate ALMOs' influence in UK communities.

Judges included Managing Director of Sustainable Homes, Andrew Eagles, Acting Editor of Inside Housing, Martin Hilditch, and Chair of the Tenants and Residents Association of England (TAROE), Michael Gelling OBE.

By installing photovoltaic (PV) equipment in homes across Borough of Poole, the Your Solar Energy project has provided residents with free solar electricity, raised awareness of energy use and climate change, and helped reduce carbon emissions in Poole.

Over 1,450 households have benefited from the free technology, with the general public also receiving subsidised energy-reduction apparatus including solar panels, endothermic roofs and heat pumps.

Mike Harrison, Director of Technical Services, said: "To have made the shortlist of these national awards is an achievement we're very proud of. Our residents have benefited from lower fuel bills, Poole's carbon footprint has been reduced, and there are increased opportunities for PHP to invest in more energy-reduction projects in the future."

The awards ceremony was attended by representatives from PHP and presented by BBC broadcaster Stuart Pollitt.
