Resident celebrates landmark birthday

May Harris

Friends, neighbours and staff gathered at Belmont Court last week to help a resident celebrate her 100th birthday.

May Harris was joined by a room full of guests to enjoy tea and cake, a sing-song and customary rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ to mark the special occasion.

A clearly delighted May was presented with a cat-themed birthday cake by Belmont Court’s Extra Care Co-ordinator Julia Druce, on behalf of PHP.

May enjoyed a week-long celebration, which also included a visit to the Salvation Army Home League base in Poole, where she was joined by Mayor of Poole, Cllr Peter Adams.

May was born on the Isle of Wight but moved to Dorset as a baby. She became a dressmaker at 15, before joining the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War. She is also a former Sea Ranger.
