PHP’s successful Your Solar Energy project – which has seen over 1,450 Poole homes benefit from free solar technology – has been shortlisted for a national award.
The project features alongside four other Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOs) in the category of ‘Managing Energy Efficiency and Fuel Poverty’ in the National Federation of ALMOs (NFA) Awards.
The awards celebrate the breadth and diversity of ALMOs’ influence in UK communities and recognise, amongst other issues: housing care and support, innovative use of technologies and tackling worklessness.
By installing photovoltaic (PV) equipment in homes across Borough of Poole, the Your Solar Energy Project has provided PHP residents with free solar electricity, raised awareness of energy use and climate change, and helped reduce carbon emissions in Poole.
The general public have also enjoyed the effect of the project, having benefited from heavily subsidised energy-reduction measures including solar panels, endothermic roofs and heat pumps.
The winner will be announced during the NFA’s national conference on 16 July 2014, where PHP will face competition from Homes for Northumberland, Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing and South Tyneside Homes.
Sue Roberts MBE, NFA Chair, said: “I've always said that the ALMO sector is doing some incredibly innovative and outstanding work and the 2014 NFA Awards finalists are helping to prove just that.
"Some of the examples of the ways in which ALMOs from across England are working now, shows the very best about what this sector is all about – celebrating tenant involvement and making a real difference to people's lives."
