New Roots
Would you like to grow your own fruit and veg?
Your dream of growing your own food could become a reality in 2012 with New Roots, a Poole Housing Partnership (PHP) project for the whole community.
PHP will be transforming currently unused pieces of Council land to create community growing spaces for all residents to be a part of. The New Roots project presents opportunities to grow fruit and vegetables for everyone, from people who have never planted a seed before, to seasoned gardeners. We will also be exploring the idea of organising garden shares between people who struggle to look after their own gardens and garden enthusiasts who are willing to spend time cultivating someone else's garden.
Clare Sutton has just been employed to lead the two year project as Resident Involvement Co-ordinator thanks to PHP winning funding for the post from the National Lottery.
Clare said: "I am keen to kick-start this project and get local people growing their own produce. It's a great way to exercise outside and be a part of what's happening in your local community. PHP has been offering its residents the opportunity to tend allotments on the Kingston Lacy estate throughout 2011, New Roots builds on this by bringing the garden space to the community."
