Leaving home, especially before you are 18, is a very big decision and is often much more complicated and difficult than young people imagine.

We have produced this booklet because we want young people to have as much information as possible about the realties of leaving home before they decide.

For young people who do leave home we want them to have the information they need to be able to live independently as safely as possible.

There are many reasons why young people leave home or need to find somewhere to live...

• to go to university or college
• to live with a partner or get married
• violence or abuse at home
• relationships have broken down at home
• problems other family members are having are affecting you, arguments, drinking, etc
• to start a job
• to travel
• problems with drugs and alcohol
• overcrowding
• leaving care
• pregnancy
