Faulty Goods
I bought a television set from a main retailer in April 2008, there have been no problems but the sound went off Sunday and I can't get it to work. I paid for the additional insurance but have lost the paperwork and have been told that the cover in the shop is only for 12 months. Is this right?
When you buy goods, they must be 'fit for purpose' and be expected to last for a 'reasonable' time. Although your television is over the 12 months guarantee offered by the manufacturer, 15 months use for a television set is not reasonable. I spoke to my friend Fiona who works at Poole Citizens Advice Bureau about this problem. She tells me this is a common problem for their clients. The CAB can assist you to draw up a letter, quoting Consumer Law and your statutory rights, to get a replacement TV or your money refunded in full.
