Frequently Asked Questions about Adaptations
1. How do I make a referral for an adaptation to my property?
You can contact Social Services helpdesk on 633868 or if a referral for a disabled child you would need to contact Children and Young People Integrated Services on 262281, for an Occupation Therapist (OT) or assistant to make an assessment of the person's needs. The OT will then make the necessary recommendation to PHP for the adaptation. If minor (under £1000) the adaptation will be ordered immediately, if major (over £1000) it is prioritised by the OT and placed on the adaptations waiting list.
2. How long will I have to wait until the adaptation is done?
Minor adaptation will be completed within 20 days from the time that signpost services receive the order. With a major adaptation, those on a high priority will be completed within 12 months. If the OT deems it critical priority it will be ordered immediately.
3. What happens if anything goes wrong with the adaptation? For example, the shower control unit breaks down.
If the problem occurs within the first six months then the contractor that installed the adaptation has to rectify the problem. After six months it is treated like any other repair to the property and an order is raised with Signpost Services to rectify the problem.
4. Where am I on the waiting list?
The Disabled Adaptations Coordinator at PHP manages the waiting list for Social Services. She will be able to give an approximate timescale for work to be carried out. She can be contacted on 264424.
5. I feel I should be on a higher priority.
