The £50,000 Unwanted Couch
Leaving household items of 'Bulk Rubbish' by the bins, bin rooms and flat corridors, and not arranged for it to be taken away, is called 'fly-tipping' and this carries a fine.
'Bulk Rubbish' is anything other than household waste or recycling materials. Examples of 'Bulk Rubbish' include:
Electrical white goods
washing machines, fridges, freezers, tumble dryers
Electrical goods
televisions, videos, DVD players, irons, stereo systems
Furnishings
three-piece suites, beds, chairs, chest of drawers wardrobes
Soft furnishings
lamps, ironing boards
PHP Caretakers, Malcolm Crabb and Tony Willis go around the estates of Poole keeping an eye out for incidents of 'fly-tipping'.
Malcolm says, "We find a lot of bulk rubbish that's just been dumped around the estates. This is unsightly, dangerous and has a negative impact for the community. All we ask is that people dispose of any such items responsibly."
You can dispose of 'Bulk Rubbish' items at the household waste and recycling centre on the Nuffield Estate. It's FREE for Poole Council Tax payers to use.
Alternatively, Dorset Reclaim will remove items on request. They make a charge of £25 for the first item and £5 for any extra items, e.g. a sofa (1 item) would cost £25, a three-piece suite (3 items) would cost £35.
